Driving Instructor Training
Train to Become a Driving Instructor with Ready Steady Drive
If you’ve ever thought about becoming a driving instructor, now is the perfect time.
There’s currently a national shortage of instructors and a huge backlog of learners waiting for driving lessons in Derby and Nottingham. That means more pupils, fuller diaries, and strong earning potential for newly qualified instructors.
So if you’re ready for a career that offers flexibility, independence, and great income, becoming a driving instructor with Ready Steady Drive could be exactly what you’re looking for.
And the best part?
You can earn while you train — not just once you qualify. Typical driving instructors can earn £1,050 a week, but it could be more depending on the hours you choose.

Steps To Becoming A Driving Instructor
The ADI Part 1 exam is based on the same format as the learner driver theory test, but it’s designed for more experienced drivers, so it’s a bit more demanding. You’ll be asked more questions and the pass mark is set higher.
While the learner theory test includes 50 questions and requires 43 correct answers to pass, the ADI theory test has 100 questions and you’ll need to score at least 85 to pass.
ADI Part 2 follows a similar structure to the learner practical driving test, but the standards are higher as you’re expected to drive with the skill and awareness of an experienced driver.
During a learner test, you’re allowed up to 15 driving faults (previously called minor faults). In contrast, the ADI Part 2 test is much stricter — you can make no more than 6 driving faults throughout the full one-hour test.
ADI Part 3 focuses on your ability to teach and coach others, assessing your instructional and training skills. During this stage, an examiner will observe you delivering a real lesson to a pupil.
Although it’s possible to complete all three exams in as little as three months, most trainees take between six and twelve months. While working towards Part 3, you’ll also have the opportunity to earn while you learn.
